    Face hallucination based on nonparametric Bayesian learning

    Full text link
    © 2015 IEEE. In this paper, we propose a novel example-based face hallucination method through nonparametric Bayesian learning based on the assumption that human faces have similar local pixel structure. We cluster the low resolution (LR) face image patches by nonparametric method distance dependent Chinese Restaurant process (ddCRP) and calculate the centres of the clusters (i.e., subspaces). Then, we learn the mapping coefficients from the LR patches to high resolution (HR) patches in each subspace. Finally, the HR patches of input low resolution face image can be efficiently generated by a simple linear regression. The spatial distance constraint is employed to aid the learning of subspace centers so that every subspace will better reflect the detailed information of image patches. Experimental results show our method is efficient and promising for face hallucination

    An energy efficient adaptive HELLO algorithm for mobile ad hoc networks

    Get PDF
    HELLO protocol or neighborhood discovery is essential in wireless ad hoc networks. It makes the rules for nodes to claim their existence/aliveness. In the presence of node mobility, no fix optimal HELLO frequency and optimal transmission range exist to maintain accurate neighborhood tables while reducing the energy consumption and bandwidth occupation. Thus a Turnover based Frequency and transmission Power Adaptation algorithm (TFPA) is presented in this paper. The method enables nodes in mobile networks to dynamically adjust both their HELLO frequency and transmission range depending on the relative speed. In TFPA, each node monitors its neighborhood table to count new neighbors and calculate the turnover ratio. The relationship between relative speed and turnover ratio is formulated and optimal transmission range is derived according to battery consumption model to minimize the overall transmission energy. By taking advantage of the theoretical analysis, the HELLO frequency is adapted dynamically in conjunction with the transmission range to maintain accurate neighborhood table and to allow important energy savings. The algorithm is simulated and compared to other state-of-the-art algorithms. The experimental results demonstrate that the TFPA algorithm obtains high neighborhood accuracy with low HELLO frequency (at least 11% average reduction) and with the lowest energy consumption. Besides, the TFPA algorithm does not require any additional GPS-like device to estimate the relative speed for each node, hence the hardware cost is reduced

    Measurement of the Branching Fraction of J/psi --> pi+ pi- pi0

    Using 58 million J/psi and 14 million psi' decays obtained by the BESII experiment, the branching fraction of J/psi --> pi+ pi- pi0 is determined. The result is (2.10+/-0.12)X10^{-2}, which is significantly higher than previous measurements.Comment: 9 pages, 8 figures, RevTex

    First observation of psi(2S)-->K_S K_L

    Full text link
    The decay psi(2S)-->K_S K_L is observed for the first time using psi(2S) data collected with the Beijing Spectrometer (BESII) at the Beijing Electron Positron Collider (BEPC); the branching ratio is determined to be B(psi(2S)-->K_S K_L) = (5.24\pm 0.47 \pm 0.48)\times 10^{-5}. Compared with J/psi-->K_S K_L, the psi(2S) branching ratio is enhanced relative to the prediction of the perturbative QCD ``12%'' rule. The result, together with the branching ratios of psi(2S) decays to other pseudoscalar meson pairs (\pi^+\pi^- and K^+K^-), is used to investigate the relative phase between the three-gluon and the one-photon annihilation amplitudes of psi(2S) decays.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures, 2 tables, submitted to Phys. A sexualidade e a enfermagem são domínios intimamente relacionados (Santos, Ribeiro & Campos, 2007). O presente estudo, implementado num hospital público de São Luís-Maranhão-Brasil, teve como principal objetivo analisar a perceção da equipe de enfermagem sobre a sexualidade de utentes em idade fértil, hospitalizados. Procurou assim responder à questão de investigação: Quais as perceções de enfermeiros sobre a sexualidade do paciente hospitalizado? O estudo foi realizado com 31 profissionais de enfermagem, cujo processo de seleção foi do tipo não probabilístico, por conveniência. O instrumento de recolha de dados deu-se primeiramente por meio de uma entrevista estruturada e a partir desse primeiro diagnóstico planeou-se e implementou-se a intervenção educativa, que englobou 3 fases. Após a intervenção procedeu-se à aplicação de uma entrevista estruturada de avaliação. Os resultados, antes da intervenção, evidenciaram que a maioria dos participantes relacionou inicialmente a sexualidade com a preferência sexual e referiu não ter formação específica para lidar com a sexualidade do paciente. A masturbação, a ereção peniana durante o cateterismo vesical, e ereção peniana no momento do banho, foram as manifestações de sexualidade mais citadas pelos ntrevistados, e um número significativo referiu, levar o caso à chefia procurando assim ajuda para a sua resolução. Após a intervenção, as mudanças mais apontadas pelos participantes foram a melhoria da comunicação e convivência com o paciente e com os colegas de trabalho, além de conseguirem responder melhor em diversas situações que requeiram o cuidar do paciente erotizado. A definição da sexualidade após a intervenção foi vista pela equipe de enfermagem como parte inerente ao ser humano, relacionando-a comportamentos e sentimentos do outro. Em relação à saúde sexual, os profissionais de enfermagem relacionaram-na aos direitos da pessoa, sexo seguro e saudável, estar com todos os estímulos sexuais ativos e a prevenção de DST/AIDS. De acordo com os profissionais, após a intervenção educativa agem agora, mais frequentemente, com certa naturalidade, com menos constrangimentos, conseguindo também uma comunicação mais efetiv

    Resonances in J/ψϕπ+πJ/\psi \to \phi \pi ^+\pi ^- and ϕK+K\phi K^+K^-

    Full text link
    A partial wave analysis is presented of J/ψϕπ+πJ/\psi \to \phi \pi ^+\pi ^- and ϕK+K\phi K^+K^- from a sample of 58M J/ψJ/\psi events in the BES II detector. The f0(980)f_0(980) is observed clearly in both sets of data, and parameters of the Flatt\' e formula are determined accurately: M=965±8M = 965 \pm 8 (stat) ±6\pm 6 (syst) MeV/c2^2, g1=165±10±15g_1 = 165 \pm 10 \pm 15 MeV/c2^2, g2/g1=4.21±0.25±0.21g_2/g_1 = 4.21 \pm 0.25 \pm 0.21. The ϕππ\phi \pi \pi data also exhibit a strong ππ\pi \pi peak centred at M=1335M = 1335 MeV/c2^2. It may be fitted with f2(1270)f_2(1270) and a dominant 0+0^+ signal made from f0(1370)f_0(1370) interfering with a smaller f0(1500)f_0(1500) component. There is evidence that the f0(1370)f_0(1370) signal is resonant, from interference with f2(1270)f_2(1270). There is also a state in ππ\pi \pi with M=179030+40M = 1790 ^{+40}_{-30} MeV/c2^2 and Γ=27030+60\Gamma = 270 ^{+60}_{-30} MeV/c2^2; spin 0 is preferred over spin 2. This state, f0(1790)f_0(1790), is distinct from f0(1710)f_0(1710). The ϕKKˉ\phi K\bar K data contain a strong peak due to f2(1525)f_2'(1525). A shoulder on its upper side may be fitted by interference between f0(1500)f_0(1500) and f0(1710)f_0(1710).Comment: 17 pages, 6 figures, 1 table. Submitted to Phys. Lett.
